Painting
My recent paintings investigate how physical processes alter an image over time. Each begins with a painted surface of biomorphic forms before an opaque template restricts my access to the underlying image. Oil paint is repeatedly extruded through circular openings, producing thousands of raised forms that accumulate into a low-relief surface. The process makes labor and time physically present while progressively obscuring what came before. Color, cast shadows, and the material presence of the paint shift between optical illusion and tactile form. Bodily and erotic associations coexist with abstraction and humor, while partial recognition encourages attempts to decipher an image that remains unresolved.
